  • William Henry "Bill" Gates III.

  • Gates cofounded Microsoft with Paul Allen in 1975.

  • Microsoft was originally called Micro-Soft at first, but was changed to Microsoft in 1976.

  • Windows 1.0 was launched in 1985.

  • In the year 2000, Gates became Chief Software Architect, while Steve Ballmer assumed role of CEO.

  • The original Xbox was released in 2001.

  • Gates stepped down as chairman in 2014, but remained on the board as technology advisor.

  • Gates, along with his wife Melinda, established the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which aims to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty globally, and to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology in America.

  • The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is said to be the largest private foundation in the world.

 

         Bill Gates changed the world with Microsoft. Our everyday life would be very different if it wasn't for him. We wouldn't have Windows OS or the Xbox without Bill Gates. Even after he left Microsoft, he is still changing peoples lives worldwide with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Bill Gates will forever be remembered both for Microsoft and his social entrepreneurship.
